Greens Health spokesperson, Dawn Walker has today called on the NSW Government to drop all plans to privatise hospitals in NSW, following the decision to scrap the plan to privatise Wyong Hospital.
“The Greens welcome the decision to finally abandon the Wyong Hospital privatisation and are calling on the NSW Government to stop the Americanisation of our public health system by ending all plans to privatise hospitals across NSW” said Greens MP Dawn Walker.
“This is a fantastic victory for the community on the Central Coast who have come together to campaign through people power against the Liberal’s greedy and misguided attempt to sell off their hospital.
“Communities in Shellharbour, Port Kembla and Maitland still face the prospect of their hospitals being privatised and I call on Premier Berejiklian to put patient interests before profit and keep those hospitals in public hands.
“Publicly run hospitals can deliver medical services more efficiently, cheaply and will continue to do complex and costly medical procedures, even when they don’t return a profit.
“The Liberal and National Parties’ addiction to privatisation is undermining our public health system at a time when we need historic public investment in our hospitals, said Dawn Walker.
