Greens MP, Dawn Walker is pressuring the NSW Government to come clean on the future of the Murwillumbah TAFE campus and reveal if the site is still slated for sale.
Concerns that Murwillumbah TAFE is marked for sale was first raised in 2015 when a leaked 'Cabinet in Confidence' document revealed the site was being considered for divestment at a value of $2.96m1.
“The NSW Liberal-National Government must reveal their plans for Murwillumbah TAFE and North Coast National MPs Thomas George and Geoff Provest need to finally come clean with our community.
“Clearly the Liberal-National Party have an agenda to rip service after service out of Murwillumbah, which is madness given the high levels of unemployment and the number of young people reliant on TAFE for vocational education.
“It’s simply not good enough to cut yet another service out of growing Murwillumbah and consolidate TAFE courses to the Kingscliff campus, or only offer them online.
“Instead of obfuscating and avoiding the issue, the Liberal-National Government must reveal whether they still plan to close the Murwillumbah TAFE.
“As a graduate of Murwillumbah TAFE myself, I will be standing with locals to defend this vital education facility both inside Parliament and out in the community” said Dawn Walker MP.
Murwillumbah Local Court, Murwillumbah Birthing Centre, Tweed Valley Women’s Service and Murwillumbah Community Legal Service have either closed or threatened with reduced services since the Liberal-National Party came to power.
